I may be mistaken, but I don't recall specific drills for working takedown defense in the members section

Are there any plans.  sprawls, cross face,  cow catchers, etc.

 

By the way his site has helped me and my students tremondoulsy

I can't friggin believe it.  Somehow we've managed to not have the sprawl in there.  It will eventually make it in there.  We use two methods.  Square Hips Down and Single Hip Down.

 

We have a whole anti-grappling series.  We just haven't put it up yet.

 

But there are a few things that might tide you over until we get to a formal treatment of this issue.

 

First is footwork.  For us it is the first line of defense.  If you can move side to side, it makes it very difficult for your opponent to find the right timing to shoot.  Also of interest would be :http://damagecontrolmma.com/me…..n-defense/ and http://damagecontrolmma.com/me…..kes-bonus/

We actually worked these tonight as this weekend we have two fighters who will be going up against opponents with strong grappling skills.

 

Finally, think about this.  I remember hearing Sensei Paulson once say, what's the best way to defend the choke?  "Be the one doing the choke"  What's the best way to defend the takedown?  "Be the one doing the takedown".  What does this mean exactly?  I believe that there are a certain number of lanes you must occupy in order to achieve a takedown.  If you own all the lanes, eg head position, arm control, level matching and angle, you will be in perfect position for a takedown and your opponent will be in one of the absolute worst positions for a takedown.

 

But, cross faces, walls, sprawls, underhooks, snap downs, whizzars etc. are all important parts of that mix as well.

 

We'll get to it, but it might be a while.  We're working on the Southpaw series righ now.

Dr. sick great advice,  Footwork is very overlooked when in comes to grappling.

Also do you have plans to do more specific stand-up drills, ala Sensei Paulsons STX 

Glove drills are such a great way to bring the timing and distance gap for students with sparring.

At this point we don't have any specific drills planned for shooting.  But if you have anything in particular you'd like to see, just let us know.

 

Oh, wait a second.  I think I see what you're asking.  I might be wrong, but in the next few shoots I'm going to give something different a try and see if it isn't what you're talking about.  So far we've shown a bunch of different techniques.  But we haven't shown how we'd have our students drill those techniques… except for maybe in the clinch and body lock series.  Nothing at long range yet though.  This should be fun.

I will shoot some of my favorite basic stand up reaction drills in the next couple weeks. If Yamasaki would be so kind as to edit the material and put it up then you will be set with a few new stand drills. I know he has a lot in the pipeline with the soutpaw series and take down defense but I bet we can work in some kickboxing drills.
