I came across this article http://ejmas.com/jcs/jcsart_le…..d_0802.htm and found it very interesting.  It's an old discussion about Japanese Ju-jittsu and American Wrestling between two of it's practitioners from 1905 in the Cosmopolitan.

"Mr. Leonard – "That position, it seems to me, would be almost impossible to secure. I do not see how a strong arm could be bent back so as to injure it."  ARM BAR : I wonder how many wrestlers still think that ;)

The old saying "There is nothing new under the sun" is so true.

Wow, what a find!  If cage fighting happened 100 years ago, maybe MMA would stand for Mixed Manly Arts

Thanks for that link Simon!

not really my find, Dr Sick's.  I was just having a rummage around there is some great stuff there that really does let you know that someone did it before you came across it.  Does that make any sense to anyone?

i loved the artical, its great to see that someone has acutally studeid and can back up his words when he says 42% of the fights go to the ground and 72% of the fights go to the ground when one person is kocked out.

wooops i posted on the wrong thread

well anyways great artical, thanks for sharing

anyways when you sparr today, think of how many times you can do a hard traditional block to there elbow joints when they punch, a kick to the balls, a kick to the knee cap, you will be surprised

same goes for grappling, kicking the face, joints, fish hooking, eye gouge, ext. in sports mma we practice not to do those things but of course it depends on the indevidual.

try it out, its perrty intersesting

Interesting article. In the last couple of years I have learned a lot more about the history of grappling. I started Wrestling when I was 13 but had no idea it has such a long and rich history.

What a great read. It almost reads like a gentlemen's version of a sherdog argument.
