OfflineGREETINGS coaches and forum members.
If anyone has been watching this season of tuf, I would like to some feedback on this move.
I believe it was episode 2 where he pulled off the victory with it. Also, your opinion on choke superiority? In my experience, each one has it's place, but I always prefered the anaconda because I could get to it from the sprawl position, which is where I always find myself, and I have the option of ground and pounding my turtling opponent. For a while I would go for the guillotine but didn't find a high enough percentage to justify it's use. I am aware that if you have your tripple attack sharp you can just attempt to sweep them from there, but if you want a more secure guillotine it seems necessary to insert the shin of the sqeezing side into their belt-line and wrap your other leg across their body, so you would have to small-circle out before you could make that reality, which defeats the entire purpose by adding a sometime tricky additional step.
On a side note, as a southpaw, I always seem to fudge the inside leg kick from the rear, or wind up perilously near my opponent's balls. It also seems like a ponderous movement for me, which is the opposite of my right leg, which is great front or back.
Hello Maurice,
Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the fight or the finish you were talking about. I do know that the Modern Guillotine is has a number of variations and modifications which make it one of the most dynamic finishes in the submission game. Here is a link to a discussion thread on http://www.Lockflow.com that has a number of variations listed. It's a great primer for understanding how complex and sophisticated such a seemingly simple technique can be. You can find it here
Unfortunately, I don't think there is a concrete answer regarding choke superiority. As you mentioned, for you, the Anaconda is superior to the Guillotine. I have found the opposite. This is simply because my arms are very short and most guys I wrestle with have thick shoulders and necks. I can't ever get deep enough with the Anaconda style chokes (Darce included) to finish them. As a result I prefer other methods.
I would suggest checking out the Guardless Guillotine and Front Headlock Options available to our members. If you don't have a membership, I suggest you get one.
By doing so, not only do you get access to over 160 exclusive DamageControlMMA.com videos (with more added each week), but you support Coach Kiser and I in our attempts to bring you the very best in Martial Arts Instruction.
In the 20 minute video posted in the Front Headlock Options thread, it shows how the Whizzar and Front Headlock are related to the Wellian Trifecta and how once there, the Guardless Guillotine, Grovit, Anaconda/Anaconda Choke Throw, Half Halch and Head Outside Single are all interconnected and how we like to use them in the context of a live game, both standing and on the ground.
Best of luck and thanks for supporting http://www.DamageControlMMA.com

OfflineAwesome Maurice!!! Thanks for your very appreciated financial support. It's guys like you who give us the ability to create and deliver the content that we do. The fact that you'd show us that respect inspires us to search, find and provide to you what we feel is the very best technique available.
let us know how your progress comes along with the front headlock series. We've been very happy with the series we showed in the links above. That's our go to series and rarely does it dissappoint. But inevitably, in your own experimentation, you will do something different, something that works, and we would love to hear about it.
Thanks again. I look forward to seeing your on the forums again soon!
