I watched the footage of Billy Robinson performing the Grovvit. Just wondering. I was taught the Grovvit around 12 years ago but I was taught to use it as a Guillotine type choke rather than a cross face. I always used to think Ufc guys just didn't know how to do the grovvit right when they were attempting guillotines. Have you guys tried it as a choke cos it really kicks ass! :)

I think across the face is more painful and that was the point of it.
I can remember getting caught with it when I was 9 by a lad about 14 and thinking my head and face was going to come off my shoulders. The lad's dad was an Irish traveller who used to wrestle and bare knuckle across the North of England, didnt know what it was called at the time but I do now. Giving my age away but it was 1969 when I got battered :)

Yeah it is real painful but more often thn not I'll find a someone's head under my armpit and the grovvit around the throat works real well. Also I was taught that if you catch it round the throat and your opponent tries to push you backward you can seperate your legs (like the box splits) and roll backwardswhile holding the grovvit. It was one of the worst moves I ever experienced. The choke is increased tenfold and the way your back and legs up stretches the hamstrings and back to busrting point. It's not pleasant at all!
