Hi guys

just thought i would share my success with the gotch toe hold , at training last night we were working a step over arm bar from the back with your partner on all fours ,anyway one of my students is a good judo player with a very tight guard from this position, his partner was struggling to apply the arm bar so i showed him the gotch toe hold which got an instant tap !! also threw in a couple of tsubo point set ups that ben jones used on coach kiser .thanks for taking the pain to pass them on guys !

all the best paul

That’s great Paul!  The Gotch Toe Hold has been somewhat of a holy grail technique for me.  There are two factors I believe contribute to this.  First is that my training partners are primarily MMA/CSW Style grapplers vs Catch or Wrestling Based.  As a result, they will go to their backs if necessary to defend techniques such as the GTO.  Another factor is that I am usually smaller than they are and thus it is more difficult for me to control them and force them into saying in a “High Defense” position while I finalize the hold.

It’s awesome to know and have ready though.  And if you’re catching it, well then, that’s pretty awesome!

Dr sick

the great point i didnt mention is that i am almost 52 years old and my student is a 20 year old county judo champion ! he has great neck defence and is very good at pinning and controlling base although totally unprepared to defend strikes etc .

thanks again paul.
