First off this guy is really really good at Silat I'd love to learn from him. Second check out his kick counters! Awesome stuff, I never thought about hitting the knee like that for a knee bar esque type take down! but REALLY watch at 2:11 when he throws his knee into the guys leg! Awesome stuff!

Silat has some kool stuff. I use a kenjit takedown fairly regular with good percentage. The knee @2:11 is very similar to how in the CSW curriculum of using the bicep/ tricep tie with running knees. I like it a lot also.

I think Silat is a hidden gem for Martial Arts.  I love Kenjit.  Datu Luar and Sapu Dalum are also awesome techniques.  I'm working on getting Guro Ray Rosales on Damage Control to show some Silat Takedowns and Ground Kicking/Sweeping Techniques.

It's just about getting everyone on the same page as far as scheduling is concerned.  Guro Rosales was an instructor at the Inosanto Academy and now teaches at Khru Wills here in UT.

I agree about silat when you find someone who is practical about it. I have had a couple who where very mystic and flaky on it. I like the realistic approach.

If I was still up north I would be all in for a seminar from Guro Rosales. I spoke briefly at an Inosanto Seminar.

I like looking at the techniques and seeing how they fit into my CSW and Muay Thai framework.   It's funny how important that perpsecitve is.  I remember buying Kali Tudo and watching it expecting to see how an MMA guy might use Kali Techniques in his arsenal.  I did, but not in the way I thought I would.  Instead I felt that I saw how a Kali guy might use Kali Techniques in an MMA situation.  It's similar and yet vastly different.

A MMA guy using Catch is different, though similar to a Catch guy doing MMA.

another silat technique i like is kuda kapela (head steering wheel). I am sure I spelled it wrong but I am sure you are aware of what I mean.

I have been trying to get some of the guys I work with using kali footwork some.

Yeah I absolutely love Silat. Ironically we did a variation of Puter Kapali (head and arm turning take down of which I think wylothar referred) in class today. It works very very nicely! You enter from a Thai Clinch, get a single tie on the head and go for an underhook while moving off to more of a T-position. Transition to a deep underhook and then grab the shoulder and screw your elbow down to your hip.  Then switch your singe tie, to the other side of the neck and push the neck away from you in a manner that seems to feel like its separating your shoulder from your body. Then you step to the opposite side and finish the technique. I just thought I'd share that cause it was an awesome awesome variation on a classic.
