I saw this posted on youtube from New York Sambo. It explains why Fedor's punching style looks so odd when compared to more traditional boxing/kickboxing punching techniques. I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this technique anywhere else.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Interesting. As always, I like to look at things with the mindset that every technique is 100% true, just not 100% of the time or for 100% of the people out there.
I think Reilly Bodycomb has some great material out there. And this is a very unique look at striking, specifically for the MMA game.
I think that you could accomplish the same ends with more conventional techniques but that doesn't mean that this isn't a valuable technique.
Thanks for sharing this on the Damage Control MMA and Mushin Self Defense web forums!

If it's good enough for Fedor, it's good enough for me! Hee hee! I always thought it was a strange way to punch as well. The video is good. Their leglocks montage is also amazing! Thanks for sharing man!

Fedor's whole MMA DVD is about the best thing I have ever seen for MMA. He goes over his punching style briefly on that as well (might be the same thing, I can't watch vids at work). WELL worth the purchase price.

According to a source on Sherdog, and a thread I found on lockflow
http://www.lockflow.com/viewtopic.php?t=21550
Fedor broke his hand again in his most recent bout. I am curious if his unconventional striking method is a factor in this or if he is simply genetically dispositioned to suffer from weak bones in his hands.

Fedor is constantly busting his hands. I personally think it's down to poor punching technique.
