Daniel McCormick, 2008 Olympian in Judo, has great tape series of Judo takedowns for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I own the product and use it frequently and with much success during the take down portion of Brazilian Jiu-jitus practice. Check it out here http://www.takedownexpert.com/…..p=lpobrien

I think Judo is a totally under rated art. My father is a 2nd Degree Black Belt, earned his second degree at the actual Kodokan in Japan. My Grandfather was a 3rd Degree Black Belt. To this day, one of my favorite combinations is one that my Grandfather taught me, the Uchi-Mata to Tai-Otoshi. Awesome stuff!
For street defense it's hardcore. Imagine being pile driven into the pavement. I fell off a ladder two days ago while renovating our new gym and landed on the concrete. I couldn't move for like 5 minutes.
Great stuff! Welcome to the forums Leo.

Dr sick….you have an awesome pedigree….wow….I have known some older Judoka in my day….Bad MOFO, I tell you what…Gripping with them was like gripping with Godzilla (even though some of them were half my size)…Btw did you see that Anton Geesink just died?….Great Judoka…a tremendous loss to the Judo world and at large martial arts world too…for sure…
Although I almost exclusively train in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu now I instinctively fall back on Judo when doing take downs… I am 52 years old and just had to stop doing Judo….I was just hurting too much… Judo is really a young man's sport… I have my son in Judo now…he has been training in Judo for almost two years….He has medaled in every tournament he has fought in… he loves it….btw Judo has made him a very tough pee wee football player…he knows how to control his space from doing all the gripping in Judo.
You are right…Judo is great on the street… I have had to use Judo when working security for bars and clubs….it is a fight ender when someone gets slammed on the pavement…these perps would try to post up…I would get inside , get a whizzer or overhook and BADA BOOM BADA BING fight over :-D…my favorite Judo throws are Harai Goshi or O Goshi…
Btw check out the sweet footsweep from Dan McCormick at 1:03 to win the 2010 US Judo Senior Nationals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..SUrv-bHiXw
I have noticed alot more Jiu-jitsu players incorporating Judo in their game. All the Brazilians, from my research, are Judo players in one way or another. If Judo works for Andre Galvao, Roger Gracie etc….it is good enough for me.
I am digging the Damage Control MMA members website….good stuff…I will use it.

I really wish I could train Judo. Hardcore sport. My strength in wrestling is throws, most of which are based off of judo. I have good hips and core and understand pressure and how, where, and when to apply it. Problem is that the only thing within 50 miles of my home is some good, old school boxing gyms and some new, arrogant, but not necessarily good, MMA gyms.
Also, welcome to Damage Control Leo.

I have a real interest of Judo also. I also see great similarities with our culture of wrestling. Especially Greco.

Yea, I don't have a whole lot of experience in Greco, but it would be more my style. Again, no opportunities around here.

Yes…I do see many similarities to Judo in Greco-Roman Wrestling….it's all good
If you are looking for Judo clubs in your area in the US check out the US Judo ( the governing body of Olympic Judo in the states) … http://judo.teamusa.org/find-a-club. Btw US Judo is co-sponsoring Judo/ Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournaments as well. That is very good news.
If you can't get to a judo club videos are a great resouce. Of course, Dan McCormicks "Takedown Expert" series which I started the thread with is excellent. With just Dan's videos you will supprise the freaking heck out of people at your local mma/ bjj school who are used to opponents who just do stinky double/ single leg takedowns or pull guard…..Throwing somebody on their head with a well executed Judo throws gets peoples attention.
