For once and for all destroying any credibility that MMA has built as a sport.  You guys really out did yourselves tonight.  I am disgusted, saddened and completely appalled at the complete lack of professionalism and the incapacity to show even a shred of good judgement by the fighters in Strikeforce tonight.

I wonder if CBS will give Strikeforce the Axe after tonight.  I certainly can't blame them if they do.

What happened? I don't watch much Strikeforce. I'm more for WEC, UFC, and Pride

Oh, just read about it. Mayhem Miller is a douche. I've watched Bully Beatdown and it's pathetic. His mouth is running the ENTIRE SHOW. He's the kind of guy that should be put in the cage in place of a bully. Except he knows what he's doing. So that wouldn't be real effective. Unless maybe you locked him in a cage with Shane Carwin, Big Nog, or Wanderlei.

Agreed, sir.

Miller's antics of stealing Shield's thunder by asking for a rematch was silly, but to have a half-dozen professional fighters mob & stomp one guy for running his mouth, or for any reason, is unacceptable.

Not sure what Stikeforce can do about it.  If they suspend the fighters involved, they lose their LW, WW, & MW champions and have very little talent left to compete w/ UFC.  It's a no-win situation for them.

I wrote a post on another forum about this. For me to summerize. The Ceaser Gracie fighters of Melendez/Diaz Brothers/ Shields have a history of bad behaviour. It is repeated, and un waivering. Miller is a loud mouth but not a thug.  Still bad on his part.

I could do without the whole crew.

Aw man, we got the delayed broadcast over here. It was a great show right up to that point. It was embarrassing. I can't believe they decided to show it AGAIN on the delayed broadcast. about 95% of the MMA world treat this as a sport and the other 5% don't have the knowelege or understanding to see it as a sport. Unfortunatley 95% of the new viewership will see it as thuggery. Very dissapointing.

Every time I encounter someone that thinks the sport is an uneducated aggressionfest I try to educate them on the finer points like defence and countering and I usually show them intricacies on submission techniques so they can appreciate what is actually happening in an MMA match. Many have gone on to become my training partners.

I have one friend who for years has always insisted that you have got to be Nasty/Evil with an aggressive nature to fight MMA. For YEARS I tried to convince him he was wrong. Finally about a month ago I got him onto the mats. I totally controlled him with basic grappling for a few minutes even though he is around a foot bigger than me and at least 2 stone of pure muscle heavier than me. I could see he was intrigued so I moved it to the stand up and showed him guarding, striking and counter striking then transitioning to takedowns, balance breaking and back to groundfighting. Now he's training regularly in Muay Thai and BJJ.

If he had seen that event before I had got him onto the mats it would have reinforced his original belief and he would likely have never walked onto the mats that day.How many other people have had their uneducated views reinforced by this?

The CBS deal looks to be in danger after that performance combined with the low ratings. The UFC will have less success bargaining for a tv deal after that as they will be tarnished with the same brush. Nothing good has came out of this incident!

I agree. I have several acquaintances who say fighting is two ego-freak, testosterone junkies who get locked in a cage trying to prove themselves on sheer pride. I mean pride has a little bit to do when it comes to fighting, no one likes to lose, but I fight and train because I like the feeling of learning knew techniques and pushing myself to new limits. Also, I just plain love the sport. It's man's oldest sport. There's so much that goes on that an uneducated person doesn't see. It's just as much a mental sport as a physical. That incident is just more firepower to the "brutish"-view of fighting people.

How can you argue with anyone who says that MMA is just a bunch of street fighters who are trying to beat the $#!T out of each other after something like this?

I'm almost resigned to nodding my head and agreeing with them.

This sport is being treated like disposable fast food garbage.  Produce it cheap, sell as much of it as you can while you can and then throw it away after it's short life span.  I truly fear for the longevity of this sport and the MMA movement itself.  The Media and those in their spotlight are bound and determined to re-enforce and empower this type of business model or so it would seem.

Let's not forget Gus Johnson's quote at the end "Sometimes these things
happen in MMA." You and I know that this is not the case, but your
average non-MMA fan tuning in for the news at 10 (since the show ran
over it's allotted time anyways) and witnessing a mob of fighters
stomping one guy in center ring.  Not the brightest thing that could have been said at
the moment given the circumstances, but I'm sure it's even more ammo for
those who think of the sport as such.

It almost reminds me of the staged jumpings on WWF when I used to watch it.

This doesn't really go under this topic, but it has to do with ignorance of the sport of MMA. I just changed my calculus teacher's view on fighting. He's also the basketball coach, so he's Mr. "If it's not played with a ball, it's not a sport", and he came into the wrestling room when I was training with one of my buddies, and was like, "What the hell do you kids think you're doing? Only idiots do that kind of thing." But I told him that it's more than just swinging and beating up the other guy. That got him skeptical, so I spent fifteen minutes explaining a lot of the basic technique and how much angles and pressure is involved and he was so amazed that he had to go tell another teacher. Haha. One less person who thinks MMA is just cavemen trying to prove themselves..

Well done Dickey!!! I love to hear of people developing a new appreciation of the sport, particularly those who were previously opposed to it.

I respect Scott Coker for doing this. Even while he has limited headliners two have been punished for their involvement. He cant be in an easy position but he obviously still has morals. Well done to Scott Coker!
