It's strange how time and debate can change your view on things. I've had numerous changes of opinion on this subject. Initially I was totally against the use of Steroids and for the banning of such substances in Professional Sports. Then I began to lean towards moving away from banning them despite my continued disapproval of PEDs. The idea being that having a few who use them despite the ban is in the end, more dangerous than allowing everyone the option of using them without fear of reprisal.
And now, in light of more discussion, I've come to a new standpoint. I believe that something should be done. What that is I am unsure. However, I do believe that a change must be made. Either, PEDs should be allowed for all, or penalties for useage should be higher. For instance, a mandatory 30 month suspension for the first offense and a lifetime ban for a second. I think these would be sufficient to again, even the playing field for a "clean" sport.
I am, for the record, strongly opposed to PEDs. I believe them to be cheating, and the popularization of their use, I believe is harmful for young athletes. Whether the harm is actual physical damage, or simply a case of instilling the belief that the ends justify the means, I don't believe it to be conducive to the instilling of values, more important to a person's development as a better human being. I guess, in short, I've always believed in software over hardware.
but that's just my humble opinion.
FDA schedule III drug. No script actually equals felony I believe. This was done by Congress even when their own expert witness said that steroids do not meet the definiton required to be classified as such.
- During deliberations, the American Medical Association (AMA), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) all opposed listing anabolic steroids as controlled substances, citing the fact that use of these hormones does not lead to the physical or psychological dependence required for such scheduling under the Controlled Substance Act. Nevertheless, anabolic steroids were added to Schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act in the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 1990.
- On June 21, 2005, Real Sports aired a segment discussing the legality and prohibition of anabolic steroids in America. The show featured Gary I. Wadler, M.D., chairman of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and a prominent anti-steroid activist. When pressed for scientific evidence by correspondent Armen Keteyian that anabolic steroids are as "highly fatal" as is often claimed, Wadler admitted there was no evidence. Bryant Gumbel concluded the "hoopla" concerning the dangers of anabolic steroids in the media was "all smoke and no fire".
Against Organization/ and commissions rules as PED's
these facts alone shouldn't be used for PED's out of normal ranges.
Use of them as PED's moral issue what about a medical one. If I am hypogonadal then I can ever compete in MMA due to a biological issue and I just want to feel normal.
Using dosages outside of Dr. Recommendations,(what would put your body in normal ranges for your age) – Should be able to
get you into trouble from a substance abuse stand point.
unscupulous Dr. are getting busted and weeded out who are doing this psuedo HRT but
it really PED's. The easy access to Dr. giving this protocol out is getting harder. Is that good or does it drive even the medical desire into the black market?
Improper education and easy access allow use by kids.- Bad news this is part of the moral issue. Lets stop making athletes role models. Let get parents as rolemodels again. I think alot more bad behaviour is done and condoned, justified, even glorified in our society than a fringe percentage of AAS users.
————– If I have to take the medicine of Testosterone and the dosages DO NO put out of range of what is medically
recognized for my age. Am I using them as a PED?
—————The normal range of testosterone is reported as 350-
1200ng/dl. Studies in the 1940's showed the average testosterone level
to be at 700 ng/dl, 300 ng/dl higher than for men today.Todays Avg. 400
– 450 ng/dl.(So I guess someone from the 1940 shouldn't be able to
compete against some one of today, if we had a time machine. His T
levels would have been almost 40% higher than todays average.)
————— athletic drug testing they to a testosterone to epitestosterone ratio. When you use any type of testosterone other than your body your testosterone goes up but your epitest doesn't . Hence the ratio out of range. We'll some people can have a natural 10:1 ration but typically its closer to 1:1.
- So lets say on HRT my epitest level will stay low but my testosterone levels go up. Yet I am only going mid range on the scale. Say I started with a hypogonadal state of 250 and my test/epitest was 4:1(legal ratio by WADA). The Dr. lets me get my range to 600-700. 500 away still from the top end of scale of normal btw. I am still in normal ranges but I have now just skewed my test to epitest ratio. 200% increase almost but I am still normal by my true test ranges. I do not know the proper way to reference the scale. And front porch mathmatics may(probably) be wrong. So I hate to speculate on the new ratio I would guess 12 – 14:1 on my rudementary math. Now my true test levels are mid scale but my test: epitest puts me very high and far above the 4:1 i believe is cut off now. It was as high as 8:1 not many years ago. So are we getting more positive simply by the testing scale being adjusted over the years.
Sonnen was out of that range and his whole argument seems flaky. But just saying lets look at the practice and what they see.
—————- Most bad press(the drama of the side effects) is way over hyped but the media machine and government. Bad news is good new($$$) and political power.
—————- If you use it to get outside of normal ranges of testosterone/ free testosteron and sbhg levels. Then I believe you are cheating but if you are only trying to not feel 75 years old at 30 and withing normal ranges then I do not believe it is. BTW I know someone in their 20's had a level of 220 ng/dl with no AAS experience or trauma who life was changes significantly by HRT and they stay mid range. 6 years no crazy side effects, just was able to get off of all the other medications that treated the symptoms of a root one of low T. What caused the low T is still unknow. And he isn't a jacked athletic monster either pimpled out and put in a straight jacket at night to protect the public.
