OfflineI am experimenting with resistance bands and cables. Due to some unforeseen life "speed bumps" Its going to replace my normal strength work. I was lucky cause about a year ago I got a great deal at a yard sale on a bunch of Life Line brand cables. I'm doing high pulls, overhead squats and a bunch of "specific moves" that relate to mma. I attach the waist belt and cable and shadowbox against the resistance. I'm experimenting with sprawls and shrimping drills with the cables.
Anyone else do any serious cable resistance work or drills?
I was using bands in Wyoming. But I was using true bands not tubing. I was using the jumpstretch bands. Elitefts now makes their version of the bands and they are less expensive. Dave Tate puts out good products. http://www.elitefts.com is the site.
Another site has a whole like of the tubing product and they have concocted it to the mma conditioning realm. I don't remember the site. They are just using the lifeline usa products. They can be bought at any good sporting goods store or performbetter.com.

OfflineI learned about the Life Line stuff from a clip of Erik Pualson's Vale Tudo conditioning. I did some experimenting with deadlifts this morning and was surprised at how well the resistance bands worked. I'm not really to hopeful about strength gains but to only maintain my current level.
On that note yard sales are a great place to find equipment. I also lucked out and found a 75 pd. and a 95 pd. solid dumbell for 5 bucks. Booyaaaaa!
Awesome. I first started using surgical tubing when I had to rehab my shoulder after surgery. I remember watching Rickson Gracie use them in his workouts and so I started using them beyond the rehab. I definitely believe in them and their utility. They're so versatile and easier to make into functional strength IMHO. Like for instance tying one end to a pole behind you and putting resistance against your punch while you shadow box, punch the bag or the mitts. I love that kind of stuff.
There used to be a whole lengthy series on youtube on "shoulder traction" work plus all kinds more. It was presented by the jump stretch guys but i think it was filmed and hosted via elitefts youtube channel. Now fts makes there own band I cant find the videos anymore.
I used the vulcanized rubber purely because it shows signs of fatigue more easily than tubing does. I don't like the preverbial towel snap when I am using one. band eliminate the need for belts and handles for, they are easier to anchor also. just loop them back into themselves.
I do keep tubing around for my suitcase gym though.
