This is a clip of Shinya Aoki vs Yuuichiroo "Jienotsu" Nagashima(a K-1-Max fighter who made the final 16 to compete for the champion belt. Nagashima has fought "Iorn" Mike Zambidis and went all 3 rounds but lost to desition.  Nagashima is also into cosplay. Cosplay is a Japanese term for dressing up into japanese cartoon(anime) characters. For interviews, press conferance and his ring entrance he dresses up usally as girl maid characters. For his entrances he comes out to a little girls song as a crossdresser with other cosplay people while they do a little dance.

this is a special event for the striker and the mmaist, there will be 2 rounds.

the first round is k-1 rules with the mma gloves

pretty much muay thai rules exept no elbows, clinch is alowed but only with one arm you can knee.

second round is k-1 Heroes rule(pretty much mma)

so enjoy this clip

It was an interesting fight to watch, but it kind of felt like watching an exhibition match. I think it would be difficult to call it the biggest upset in MMA when only half the match was faught using MMA rules. true my knowledge of japanese MMA is pretty limited so that may be coloring my understanding here, but it seems with a 2 round rule each fighter getting a round under his rules the expected outcome should have been a draw. each fighter winning the round under which he is most comfortable fighting. a KO when the expected outcome is a draw is an upset, but not a huge one. help me understand better why this is such an upset?

That was awesome!  I'm a fan of the Rubber Guard and guys that take it to it's extremes such as Aoki.  But I'm also a fan of MMA.  I have to admit, I enjoy seeing grappling dependent fighters getting punished for their lack of respect for the striking aspect of MMA, just as I enjoy watching striking dependent fighters getting punished for their lack of grappling knowledge.

On a technical note, here you see the importance of setting up a shot, or even, using a clinch style takedown in place of a shot.  You also see why we emphasize crossing the hands in anticipation for a knee when employing a shot (2:00 in).

Great clip Kensei, thanks for sharing.

@bio-chem

let me refrase it, biggist mma upset in japanese mma promotion,

and all the things i say is IMO

ok so shinya aoki is really famouse in japan and because of his winning streaks in japan he is very popular, not only that his grappling specially his rubber gaurd is amazing and allways is a crowd pleaser in japan. doing unorthadox things like juping into guard, butt scooting, his up kicks to opponents faces.  Not only that his a high accomplished grappler.

I'm guessing before the fight almost everyone who was awere of this fight thought shinya aoki was gonna submitt nagashima in the second round. but it so happens shinya lost

in japan cosplay/dress up/cross dressing w/e you wanna call it is a total geek and looser thing to do. Not only nagashima does cosplay, he's entrance consits of coming out to anime(japanese cartoon) songs that Lolicons(people who are into yung girlsYell) watch, its quite disturbing

heres a clip … it speaks for its self

so continuing on…

not only that after shinya got koed the majority of the crowd wasn't very happy, only the other coplay audiences where LOL

so in conclution

everyone thought shinya would beat nagashima

nagashima k.o.ed shinya(who is currently ranked #4 in the light weight divition from sherdog.com(i actually checked just for the post)

crowd dosn't like cosplayers beating their top fighter

LOL

XDDDDDD

so thats the best i can explain it to you

you are absolutely right. that is very disturbing. I guess the only circumstances where that works is when you then proceed to walk into the ring and KO the guy accross from you. Under those circumstances you can come out dressed up however you want if you can back it up.
