OK, for those of you who watched UFC 124 you have to tell me what you thought about the main event? Am I the only one who was surprised Koscheck got handled by a jab? Am I way off base thinking someone of his caliber of fighter should be able to handle a jab? not to take away from st. pierre, he executed his game plan amazingly well. Kos didn't slip, he didn't parry, and it looked like he ran his right eye into that jab on purpose.  Am I just way off base here in thinking koscheck's stand-up defense looked childish?

It looked more to me that Koscheck was just expecting more of a ground game.  As the announcer pointed out though the Jab is the most under used tool in MMA, and to an extent I agree.  Also, I think he may have been simply to used to being on the offensive so his defense suffered.  Plus it only takes two or three good hard jabs to do the damage, and if you look in the first round he was very "cocky" so to say and took quite a few, by that time its hard to see the jab coming cause your eye is swelled up to bad.

hmm, u speak of jab as it was useless punch bio-chem, a jab broke hes orbital bone, and dont forget who GSP was training with ( fredy ) hes one of the best boxing teachers, and actualy i expected koscheck to win by TKO punches from the mount, but i really felt koscheck was afraid to clinch GSP, he wanted to keep a distance and jab can reach in a distance so he failed. thats my comment

Not at all. I find the jab to be extremely effective, as shown by the fight. my problem is that koshcheck showed no defense for it at all. no head movement, no parry. GSP was not throwing technical combinations. I would have expected a fighter of koshchecks caliber to at least show some sort of defense for a jab.

like i said, koscheck was afraid to lose again, he cudnt think, like " a jab is coming, should i parry? but if i parry he might double take me down, should i avoid? it might be a trap, should i.. bla bla" until he finish thinking, the jab would have already hit him, as u can see, only few jabs , no no, not jabs, only a few hits of GSP missed, and koscheck didnt land 1 effective hit on GSP

GSP was never in trouble or danger, but saying KOS didn't land 1 effective hit on GSP is a bit overboard. There were a couple of uppercuts as well as other hits that landed hard.

What I'm saying is that game plan would never have worked on Thaigo Alves for instance and i'm surprised it happened on a #1 contender for the belt.

How would Georges have won if he had never read this? Laughing

I think GSP definitely proved the effectiveness of the Jab in that fight and he did carry it out to perfection. However, as good as the performance was I think the Jab landed so well in the first round that it broke Koscheck's orbital bone and his vision seemed to be affected by it. If his eye wasn't so messed up he may have been able to read it better. Saying that, I believe the Jab was selected by GSP's team due to the huge swings Kos likes to throw. I think Kos may have found a way around it eventually if he had his full vision.

Possibly I'm wrong but I think you're right when you say you would have expected a better defence system in place for the Jab.

And don't forget the http://damagecontrolmma.com/me…..ab-series/

intermediate jab series with 7 variations and set ups for the jab.  As you can see, it's an ideal technique for MMA because of it's lack of committment and smaller gloves, it is a devastating weapon.  One of my favorites and definitely the foundation of my offensive striking arsenal.

I absolutely love those jab series. Since joining the site and watching them many times i've very much improved my game in relation to the jab. it just astonishes me that Koshcheck didn't appear to have a parry, slip, or counter in his bag of tricks against the jab.
