Hop right, right hand is a great one for anyone. But if you're using it effectively, I'd hardly call you a beginner. You'll own many an MMA striker with that little trick. They just don't seem to understand the change of angle, and even when they catch on, you can use that to your advantage as well – DECONSTRUCTION!
I too hope Couture gives him a proper malkying.
Hop right, right hand has won me several sparring rounds against some professional fighters from this area. And when they caught on, bob under clockwise and come up with an uppercut or kick to the body. Bruce Lee, one of my personal role models, had a philosophy, "A fighter must be like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be like water, my friend." Much like Deconstruction. He stressed being able to perform and adapt to any situation. His whole form of Jeet Kune Do emphasized studying and learning many different techniques from many styles and taking what works best and naturally for you and having your own, personal, customized arsenal of attacks and defenses, rather than falling into the strict techniques of traditional martial arts. Before him, most martial arts were set patterns and techniques that one must force themselves to fit into. He basically invented MMA and hybrid martial arts. Very intelligent man. Too bad he left us early.
As for Couture/Toney, I say Couture, just because I'm going with the odds, even if they don't do much in this sport, and that I trust Randy will be smart enought to get Toney out of his "safe zone" (a position to punch, whether clinch range or kick range). Toney strikes me as a very stubborn character with far too much pride to learn much grappling. Although, even though I'm only 17 as of last Monday, I've learned to never judge anyone. I've watched a small, soft, nerdy wrestler win a state championship by sheer technique and intelligence, and a one armed boxer be a contender for the Golden Gloves chamionship. I'm not judging Toney and saying he won't learn any grappling to at least stop Randy, a champion boxer can't be that dumb, just he seems to have a hell of an ego and I feel it could get in the way.
