Matt Hughes and BJ Penn are set to fight their rubber match at 123, to me it seems like history repeating itself. It reminds me of when UFC matched Chuck Liddell up against Rampage. Rampage was coming off a very uninspiring and hard fought win over Marvin Eastman after that Rampage was given a title shot. Many believed It was engineered so Dana's buddy Chuck Liddell would be able to avenge a loss to Jackson in Pride FC. Rampage came in and KO'd the Iceman in the first round.

The Hughes-Penn situation is similar in that Hughes is a good buddy of Dana White's and has just come off a career rejuvenating victory over Ricardo Almeida and Penn has just come off two back to back losses to Frankie Edgar. In most situations a Welterweight on a 3 fight win streak would not be matched against a Lighweight on a 2 fight losing streak. Maybe Dana believes the timing is right for Hughes to capitalise and get a win to go down in history as the better fighter.  Also, Dana might be wanting to punish BJ for writing nasty things about him in his book haha!
