OfflineCan i do this? i don't know, but here goes…
ESPN website posted questions regarding the MMA Live Awards. well, i was filling them out and after i submitted them, they show you where your results stack against the others. so it got me wondering: who does everyone think was the fighter of the year? i'll give you the ESPN choices: Cain Velasquez, Frankie Edgar, GSP, Jose Aldo, Dominick Cruz, or Chris Leben?
i chose Frankie Edgar for a few reasons, but mainly because he backed up his "upset" win over BJ Penn, who many will acknowledge to be the best fighter ever at 155. they didn't call Penn the "prodigy" for nothing. back to my answer though, Edgar has an amazing work ethic and trains hard and even though he darn near lost the title in the first round to Maynard, he held on to fight to a (b.s.) draw. Edgar-Penn 2 was the exclamation point and answered the questions of whether or not Edgar was legit.
all of those fighters listed have made this a tough category and i could list reasons why 4 of the 6 deserve the honors: Edgar (see above), Velasquez's execution, Aldo's unrelenting toughness, and Cruz's now-you-see-me-now-you-don't, non-stop style.
just my opinion. now, what's yours?

OfflineHmm I couldn't choose a Fighter, but the fighter who honestly impressed me most, was Diego Sanchez. Watching his fight with Paulo Thiago he not only underwent a spiritual, and moral transfiguration, but as a fighter as well. His Win over Thiago was extremely impressive, and the man impressed me after that as well. In his interview, remaining humble.

Offlineit's good to see Sanchez getting some again. "the nightmare" was starting to fall off a bit and needed something, anything to change in order to not be at risk of a UFC dump job. though i didn't see the fight against Thiago, he's a tough cat and can take it to people.
i didn't like how ESPN limited the list of fighters because, as you had stated, i was impressed by others too. Ben Henderson was looking great all year … until he met Showtime in the cage. Smooth looked almost unstoppable judging by his wars with Cerrone and Jamie Varner and seemed to escape many tough situations because of his flexibility and tough chin. well, i guess he's not immune to Matrix-style moves that land square on his jaw. Bones Jones impressed me too how his last fight was over so soon.

OfflineFrankie Edgar or Jose Aldo deserve it in my opinion. Cain was a close contender too. I love that guy. Aldo was just such a phenomenal beast that nobody came close to giving him a real challenge. Edgar though overcame BJ Penn as a HUGE underdog and then again beat him as a Huge underdog and BJ Penn came back to KO Matt Hughes in under a minute so BJ wasn't shot. He was just outworked. Don't know if the match with Maynard should count as it will probably be considered during next years voting too. If we're counting it though 'Frankie Edgar!!! Fighter of the year!!'
