i know this seems kinda naruto-ish…but however…is there something really such as chi energy and ki stuff? shaolin monks used them..ninjas used them..or is this just a myth? well..scientifically the mind can do that..also those crazy people that sends energy to their hands then put it stuff..we usually dont see someone throwing a card into a stone and breaking it..holding a wooden sword then break a steel sword with the wooden sword..these stuff are insane! what do u guys think about that?…one more thing..if this really true..then why doesn't fighters use them? using these types of energy in a fight can increase everything you've got! right?

I am a huge skeptic. Back in the day I practiced choy li fut kung fu, my instructor had me hold stances and do breathing exercises to build my chi. I read all the stories  of the shoalin monks etc. I wanted it to be true but sadly it isn't. The human body contains energy and emits energy but some magical power source that enables a person to do super human feats is a parlor trick.

In reference to your question "why don't fighter's use it" search Don Frye, a old school UFC fighter. He fought some internal style kung fu guy in Puerto Rico. The guy was a practinoer of Bua Gua Zhang (sp?) and Frye smashed him.

Please don't think I'm being to harsh but Ive been through the whole "magical chi and ki" stuff before. I did chi sao for years (Wing Chun) and breaking the boards stuff. In my opinion solid fundamental boxing and wrestling with good conditioning will beat chi every time.

well, if chi just nothing but how to breathe then sure, but if chi can really become like spells and magic stuff,a boxer wouldnt even reach the chi guy, i dont know really, its an interesting subject with a possibility of nearly anything and everything, well, since i got some time due to my injuries, i will try to reach something insane in the chi/ki thingy, it wont affect my training in a negative way anyways, so i wont lose anything, what do u think?

i believe in it. i think it's really a mental thing.   it's like when someone tries to break boards or something and they concentrate first.  Or maybe your training really hard and your body wants to puke but your mental mind says no and for some reason you get through it. i've seen things that where amazing in real life so donno. you have to believe first or nothings going to happen.

as one of my teacher says there are two kinds of people in this world the ones that believe they can and the ones that don't.

i believe in this type of energy, i seen my bro do it, he could vibrate the water in a cup without touching it, just by putting hes hands beside the cup, so yeah, i am 100% something was going on then…well..i am sure with training something will happen, plus i heard it speeds up the injury recovery time, so perfect timing!

Here is the thing, a mystical energy that is within ever human that can cast spells is totally BS.  Now I believe in some supernatural things but that is a separate issue.  I'v experimented with it a little. Here is what I can say.

1. Influencing things outside your body are minimal if not impossible.

2. Chi is most likely a biological function we don't understand yet, happens all the time. It will have rules and limits, so no chi fighting.

3. George Dillman crap is fake, and a placebo.  If chi does in fact exist, it will never ever trump the more physical aspects.

4. It would be more impractical in a real fight, because it takes far to much time and concentration. Maybe (big maybe) useful in controlling an opponent after the fight or before the escalation but nothing much more.

i'm guessing this will *bump* the thread, but it's been over a month since i've had the time to be online much since the 2nd one came along and work has been beating the snot out of me.

the way i approach this is similar to TCMAG's approach.  i believe in the power of prayer, so if this is your belief then i'm sure it has some substance.  but without getting into cultural/spiritual ramblings, i don't believe there is enough "chi" in your body to have a tremendous impact on your opponent.  if that were to be the case, why aren't there (any) fighters known to rely specifically on it and augment that with training rather than the opposite?!

the mind has tremendous power of the body and can influence what your physical capabilities are.  research has proven time and again that people who endure hospitalization in an intensive care unit and maintain a positive mindset (and also surrounded by family members of a similar attitude) have shortened ICU stays and generally leave the hospital faster.  also, say you know in your mind that you can generally do 60 push-ups and on good days get to 65.  well, if you focus on the number 60, i'd be willing to bet that your body starts to "feel" the fatigue around number 56, 57 and you're toast at 60.  i have no science to back this, just personal experience.

wow, i completely rambled a bunch and now i have to get back to work.  i really don't want to get back to work, but it pays the bills.  i'd much rather be sitting at home watching college football and enjoying the beautiful weather with my kids, or doing numerous other things that y'all that arent' online are doing right now, but if you're still reading this post, that means you have more idle time than i do and what we really should be doing is logging off at this point, grabbing our gear, and hitting the mats (or heavy bags) or weights.  excessive computer time gives me that spare tire.  i should stand and stretch my hammies so i don't get lower back injuries like many of the secretaries that have saddle bag arses like i see.  no tv and beer make homer something something.  go crazy?  don't mind if i do!!!!   arrghh!  (simpson's reference).  i love damage control and thanks for wasting your time with me!
